Sofia is the Chief of Staff in the Office of Advisors of the Minister of Education in the Mexican Federal Government. From 2008 to 2012, she coordinated the Social, Infrastructure and Tourism cabinets and Priority Programs at the office of the Mexican Presidency. Previously, she served in the President’s office as Director of Planning and Strategic Agenda, and was responsible for designing the National Development Plan 2006 and monitoring major government programs. She has also been Advisor to the Director-General of the Federal Government’s Family Development Agency (2006); Chief of staff to the Energy Minister (2004) and Director of Political Planning for the Partido Acción Nacional parliamentary group in the Federal Congress. In 2000, she joined the Public Policy Affairs Office of the Mexican Presidency, after her participation in the presidential campaign of Vicente Fox (President of Mexico from 2000 to 2006). She was also Director of Planning in the Office of the Governor of the state of Nuevo León. Before joining the public service, Sofia worked 12 years at the Instituto Teconológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) as an academic and researcher of different subjects, most of them related to teacher training, innovation of educational programs, and social development.
