We invite you to join 2019 World Fellow Feng Gao for a stimulating talk on open data in China. It might not occur to you that open data exists in China. With its own definition of “open,” China mixes open data with data sharing to stimulate and potentially regulate how data flows for economic growth. With China investing heavily in its ambitious AI agenda, its data governance policy holds implications for the rest of the world. This talk will give an introduction into China’s open data governance: its history, motivation, and future direction. Questions and concerns around China’s data governance will be covered during this discussion.
