Levi Wataka is co-founder of Ekuota Africa, a pedagogical support organization working with people across disciplines and demographics in Eastern Africa. He is the principal resident conductor of the Nairobi Orchestra, and founder/director of the Nairobi Children’s Orchestra and the Muziki Changa program for infants and toddlers. He serves as chairperson of the Nairobi Music Society and as chair of the board of directors for the Kamili Organization for Mental Health. Levi also sits on the boards of the Kenya Conservatoire of Music and the Mt. Kenya Academy Schools.
Levi is a career schoolteacher with over 20 years of experience drawn from the Starehe Boys Centre, St. Andrews, Turi and the Peponi House Prep School. He is also a founding coach and current patron of the Molo Rugby Club. Levi directs Bookbunk’s ‘Musicbunk’ program, serving public libraries in Nairobi’s Eastlands and supports the orchestral program at the prestigious Alliance Girls High School. Levi serves as the musical director of the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya and has worked closely with Elizabeth Njoroge in the Ghetto Classics music program.
