Amílcar is currently Chief-of-Staff for Political Analysis for the legislative group of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) in Mexico’s Senate. His areas of expertise include political affairs, fiscal policy, human rights, federalism and electoral reform. He has over a decade of experience as a top congressional advisor, both in the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. Amílcar has also worked with two-time presidential candidate, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, both when he was Mayor of Mexico City and as a top member of his campaign team. In 2006, he was elected to the National Executive Committee of PRD, becoming its youngest member and taking on responsibility for the national party organization prior to the 2006 presidential elections. In 2012, he founded and ran the Organization “Todos Contamos” (We all Count), an independent citizen-run electoral observation initiative which became the only organization whose work successfully led to the application of fines to the political parties for excessive campaign spending. He also frequently publishes opinion pieces in leading newspapers in Mexico including La Jornada, El Sur, El Economista, and Reforma.
