Orzala is an Afghan scholar and civil society activist working to empower local communities to find peaceful solutions to conflict. In 2010, she founded the Youth & Women’s Leadership Centre. Previously - as the founder and chair of a leading Afghan NGO Humanitarian Assistance to the Women and Children of Afghanistan - Orzala spent twelve years creating and delivering training programs to Afghan women and children in refugee communities in Pakistan and in Afghanistan. Under the Taliban regime, she launched underground literacy and health education programs for women and girls. Orzala is increasingly involved in political advocacy. She’s currently conducting research for her Doctoral thesis on how interventions change and influence local power dynamics in Afghanistan. Orzala serves on the boards of various charities, women’s and human rights organizations and networks in Afghanistan. She was recently appointed as trustee of Afghan Aid, a well-known British based Afghan charity with 30 years of work experience in Afghanistan.
