Lai is a lawyer, development economist, policy entrepreneur, and an ardent activist for probity, efficiency and best practice in government and the private sector. He is currently Team Leader of the Facility for Oil Sector Transparency and Reform (FOSTER), a donor-funded program that supports government and civil society in a bid to push for greater transparency, accountability and reform in the Nigerian oil sector. Previously he was a technical advisor on the Nigerian Presidential Task force on Power and worked on the Roadmap for Power Sector Reform.  Prior to this, he worked as Special Assistant to three consecutive Directors-General at the Bureau of Public Enterprises in Nigeria; as Senior Policy Advisor with the Nigerian Infrastructure Advisory Facility (NIAF) and for several years on the power sector reform program, initially on the development of sector policy and legislation.  He co-authored the landmark Roadmap for Power Sector Reform.  Lai was previously an associate with the global energy project finance team of the New York Law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and General Counsel of the London Stock Exchange-listed African gas player, Gasol.  He was named a Fellow of the Archbishop Desmond Tutu/Oxford Business School Leadership Programme in 2009 and a New Leader for Tomorrow by the Council of Europe-affiliated Fondation du Forum Universale in 2010.
