2017 Fellows wrap up time at Yale
The 2017 Yale Greenberg World Fellows concluded their four-month journey at Yale during the Closing Ceremony in Horchow Hall’s GM Room on Dec. 7, 2017. The 16 Fellows and two Associate Fellows were recognized for their contributions to the Yale community and each received a certificate. WISE event brings together World Fellows and young learners
In March 2017, World Fellows director Emma Sky accompanied four World Fellows to Athens to contribute to the WISE Learners’ Voice program. The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) Learners’ Voice, which is supported by the Qatar Foundation and Santander Universities, brings together around 30 young people from around the world to build knowledge of education, social entrepreneurship, leadership and education. This year they are focusing on the Global Refugee Crisis, with expert sessions and volunteer work with Khora, Metadrasi and Organization Earth. Fellows launch storytelling app to promote intercultural dialogue
Two World Fellows from the Class of 2015, Ima Abdulrahim (pictured second from left) and Stephen Shashoua (at left), are collaborating on a new project to promote intercultural dialogue. During their time at Yale, Abdulrahim and Shashoua envisioned a mobile storytelling platform for youth, and their idea developed into CERITA: Community Empowerment in Raising Inclusivity and Trust through Technology Application. CERITA is based in Indonesia, at the Habibie Center where Abdulrahim is executive director. Shashoua is the founder of Plan C: Culture and Cohesion, and has long worked to promote interfaith dialogue. World Fellows Program receives $16 million gift
Yale University has received a generous $16 million contribution from The Starr Foundation, a private charitable foundation chaired by Maurice R. “Hank” Greenberg. In recognition of this gift, the university has renamed its signature leadership education initiative the Maurice R. Yale co-hosts Conversations Without Borders event in Madrid
We have to be more courageous. That was one of the challenges issued by a panelist during the March 3 “Conversations Without Borders” on Europe’s migrant crisis. Four Yale World Fellows gathered at the headquarters of Banco Santander in Madrid, Spain, to lead a discussion on the challenges and impact of the massive wave of migrants pouring into Europe from the Middle East each day.
